When I began working on The Midnight Rose: A War of Ruins back in 2018, I had no idea how much of a journey it would become. What started as a spark of inspiration has blossomed into a world brimming with magic, mystery, and characters who feel like real people to me. Today, I’m taking you behind the scenes to share how this story has evolved over the years.
The Spark
Every story begins with an idea. For me, it was a question: What if there was a force so rare and powerful, it could unite light and dark—or destroy them both?
That question planted a seed in my mind. Soon, I was envisioning a world where angels, demons, and Nephilim were locked in an ancient struggle. From this, Kiera’s story began to take shape—a young woman navigating a fractured world, trying to uncover her place in it all.
The Early Days (2018–2019)
In the beginning, my process was all about discovery. I spent months scribbling notes, sketching characters, and exploring the lore of this world. I wasn’t striving for perfection—I just wanted to capture every idea before it slipped away.
Looking back at those early drafts, I can’t help but smile. It’s incredible to see how much the story has grown since those first scattered thoughts.
Building the World
World-building is one of my favorite parts of writing. For The Midnight Rose, I wanted a setting that felt both immersive and emotionally grounded.
I spent countless hours creating histories, designing the dynamics between light and dark forces, and exploring the intricate relationships between angels, demons, and Nephilim. Central to Kiera’s journey is a medallion—a symbol of power and vulnerability. For me, it became the perfect metaphor for Kiera herself.
Challenges Along the Way
Every writer knows the struggle of balancing creativity with life’s demands. There were times when progress felt painfully slow and moments when self-doubt crept in.
But through it all, this story stayed with me. It became a labor of love, pushing me to keep going. Every challenge I faced made the final product even more rewarding.
Where We Are Now
After years of writing, revising, and falling in love with this world over and over again, I’m finally preparing to share it with you.
The journey isn’t over yet, but I’m so excited for what’s to come. The Midnight Rose: A War of Ruins is more than just a book to me—it’s a part of who I am. My hope is that it will become something meaningful to you too.
